On February 8, 1919, a group of French businessmen had remodeled the Farman Company’s twin-engine Goliath biplane and began flying routes across the English Channel between Paris and London. By August 1919, Farman was offering daily service on this route for as many as 14 passengers. 8)

ZEPPELIN is a name that has passed on into cultural legend. Many have forgotten whom these ships are named after, but the very name evokes visions of giant passenger ships voyaging across land and sea.

Who are they named after? Full name please

On 15th April, 1861, Abraham Lincoln called on the governors of the Northern states to provide 75,000 militia to serve for three months to put down the insurrection. Virginia, North Carolina, Arkansas and Tennessee, all refused to send troops and joined the Confederacy. Kentucky and Missouri were also unwilling to supply men for the Union Army but decided not to take sides in the conflict.

Earth’s diameter is only 12,756 kilometers (7,926 miles). More than one million Earths could fit inside the sun.

    WRONG!

in 1792, Inventor William Murdoch introduced coal-gas lighting in England. Murdoch succeeded in lighting his house and office in Cross Street, Redruth, by piped coal gas. This was the first time coal gas was used to illumiate a home or business.

Technically speaking, I was not wrong. Your question was: When was it first used – meaning, I would suppose, to the public. Using the gas in his own home was only for demonstration use. 😉

like you said, it was “USED”…………….if only for demonstration, but it’s my understanding he “USED” it for lighting…………..and i mentioned “First” used…….

but what the heck; as kenny stabler would say, “that’s nit-picking ref!!”

or, as Bhudda would say, “for exact communication, exact language is necessary…”

or, as pete rose would say, “it’s always just a game.”

    let’s have it, England…………..
