Charlie Chaplin was born in London on 16th April, 1889. Both his parents were music hall entertainers and Charlie started appearing on the stage while still a child. His father, Charles Chaplin, deserted the family and eventually died of alcoholism. His mother, Hannah Chaplin, found it increasingly difficult to find work on the stage and in 1895 the family entered the Lambeth Workhouse. Later, Charlie’s mother had a mental breakdown and was sent to the Cane Hill Lunatic Asylum.

“How old was Charlie Chaplin when he won the part of `Billy` in a `West End` (London) production of `Sherlock Holmes?` 😯

Hanging had been the principal form of execution in Britain since the 5th Century, although other methods such as drowning, burial alive, hurling from cliffs, beheading, boiling alive, burning at the stake and shooting have been used at various times.
1212. King John is reputed to have ordered the hanging of 28 young men and boys at Nottingham Castle. They were the sons of rebel Welsh chieftans whom he had taken hostage.

Peter Anthony Allen (at Walton Prison Liverpool) and Gwynne Owen Evans – real name John Robson Walby, (at Strangeways Prison Manchester) become the last to be hanged. The executions taking place simultaneously at 8.00 a.m…… IN what year?

In the United States, Prohibito3 was accomplished by means of the Eighteenth Amendment to the national Constitution (ratified January 16, 1919) and the Volstead Act (passed October 28, 1919). Prohibition began on January 16, 1920, when the Eighteenth Amendment went into effect. Federal Prohibition agents (police) were given the task of enforcing the law.

Prohibition also referred to that part of the Temperance movement which wanted to make alcohol illegal. Prohibitionists had some success even before national prohibition; in 1905, three American states had already outlawed alcohol; by 1912, it was up to nine states; and, by 1916, legal prohibition was already in effect in 26 of the 48 states.

But I do not have a clue who it was that brought this about 🙁
Maybe someone else can come up with the answer 😀

    (was it….. Representative Andrew Volstead)
