………….I`ll come back and warn you, gulp.
All the other animals and birds laughed. They knew that Blue Jay`s intentions were good, but he was so small.
Blue Jay then suddenly, and with the speed of bullet swooped down to Rab the rabbit, but as usual Blue Jay`s coordination at landing was hopeless. He hit the forest floor with such a bump, leaves and small twigs were flying everywhere. Rab the rabbit stood where he was, scared stiff.
Rab hadn`t seen Blue Jay speeding towards him, and he thought it was the end of the forest. When all the dust & leaves settled, Rab looked around slowly…………….
It wasn`t the end of the forest, his friends were still there – but they were laughing fit to bust, Rab looked round and his eye caught a movement. A whole big pile of leaves were moving on their own, how can this be he thought. Leaves don`t move, well not unless the wind helps them.
“Cough, cough, cough, splutter, sneeze, cough,”
Rab was transfixed, the leaves were, were, they were talking!
Then suddenly the leaves were flying everwhere as Blue Jay gave a final big shrug and rolled out of the heap of leaves, coughing and sneezing.
“Oh my, oh my, oh my, dear, dear me.” said Blue Jay, “I must practice more on my landing.”
Sitting on the forest floor, Blue Jay looked round to see that all the animals and birds were in hoots, laughing and laughing and laughing.
Even the Owl the wise teacher was hooting with laughter.
Rab meanwhile, having seen the leaves start flying in all directions and talking, had turned and run as fast as he could behind a big `ol chestnut tree 😯
He was shaking like the branches of the trees in a wind 😯Blue Jay, wondering what all the fuss was about, puffed out his chest and flew gracefully into the sky, chirping all the way up…….

April 27, 2007 at 5:51 pm #41877englandboy – JohnParticipant……………….well Blue Jay just kept flying higher and higher, he was whistling and chirping so much that he did not realise how high he was soaring.
Teacher the wise old owl, with his huge eyes had to really concentrate to keep Blue Jay in sight.
“Can you still see Blue Jay, can you, can you?”, asked Rab the rabbit – he was still shaking, as looked up at the top of the forest. “I tell you that bird is crazy, totally crazy, he`s lost his marbles, I mean who would dive into a pile of old dried-up leaves then scare the heck out of his friends? who, I ask you, who?”“Okay, I can still see, I can, no I can`t, yes I can, Blue Jay has stopped. It looks like, like, yes it looks like, yes he is, he is, he`s coming back down. The crazy young fool, when he get`s back here, I`m gonna give him a piece of my mind, you see if I don`t”, said Teacher, ruffling his feathers to make it look like he was angry – when really, he was hoping that Blue Jay got back OK, he liked Blue Jay, even though he was nuttier than a squirrels nest stocked-up for winter.
Blue Jay had stopped soaring into the blue sky, he was, quite out of breath, phew. Blue Jay opened his eyes to see where he was……looking down, he got the most awful shock, where had the forest gone? Where had the LAND gone? All Blue Jay could see was a small piece of green stuff a long, long, long ways down….
“Ohh my giddy aunt, ohhh my, ohh my. Where am I, What`s, what`s, oh my this is not right………..I`m feeling faint, I`m……”
Suddenly the shock was too much and poor Blue Jay fainted. His small body began to plummet downwards, going faster and faster and FASTER as he sped towards the top of the forest. The trees were getting bigger and bigger as Blue Jay raced downwards. Getting closer, closer, CLOSER to the tree-tops………………

Slam Bam! Blue Jay landed atop a canopy of leaves and branches. he shook his small head to get his bearings. He had no idea where his friends were, in fact, he had no idea where he was! Glancing up at the sky, he realized the sun was rapidly setting and since no bird in his right mind would attempt to fly at night in the forest, he pulled his wings close and decided to settle in until day light. In the not too far distance, he could hear the distinct hooting of an owl. Was that his friend and mentor? Somehow he doubted it. In his little click of friends he was not prey but alone in the forest he might well be someones supper! He began to shiver in spite of the balmy night. He must have dozed off for he awoke with a start. Some where in the darkness came the plaintiff cry ..Helpppp…
