Two police cars and a truck came into view as Terrance, Beth and Hattie stood waiting.
Thank heaven, Beth said, help has come!
The men pulled up and hurried from the cars while the two men in the truck pulled a ladder from the back. They went to where the three were and started to get caught up on the events of how this mishap had happened. They started placing the ladder into the large gaping hole and getting some other gear from the truck. It was decided that two of the men would go down and start to search for Frank.
…….Frank sat wondering what he should do. Should I try to go toward the light or just stay put until someone can come and help me get out of this mess? After some thought, he slowly started crawling toward the light which seemed miles away. I must be crazy, Frank thought to himself. He was so uncertain of his actions. He heard a noise which seemed to come from behind him. I’d better just stop and wait for Terrance. I’d feel much better doing this with him beside me. Whatever is going on here is much more than we bargained for. Yes, Frank thought, I’ll wait and be safe.
…..Mike stood talking to the couple for a few more minutes and without them even walking to the car, they turned to go back toward the building. Mike got back to the car and didn’t say a word not even an apology regarding being gone for well over an hour. Sarah wanted to ask him who they were but didn’t want to give him the satisfaction because he must know that they were the couple that were in the town where they went for lunch. It was a quiet ride back to the house and Sarah was wondering how much Hattie and the rest of her new friends had made out searching the place for clues. She also wondered what was going on with Mike and why all of a sudden was he so silent. She once again started to tense up with fear of Mike, thinking Hattie must be right in her assumptions.
