I was just about to put on some water for tea, would you care for some? Sarah asked of Lilly. Yes, that would be kind of you, said the stanger who was now seating herself at the table and making herself at home as if she had done it thousands of times before.
If you don’t mind me asking, what is a young woman such as yourself doing out alone this untimely hour of the morning? Lilly gave a nervous little laugh and said,Okay, lets see if I can get my keyboard to co-operate!
You see, I know you are going to think I am nuts, but I wasn’t quite honest with you earlier, I used to live in this house, and just had to come see it again. I sure hope you don’t mind, and are not too angry with me.
Sarah took a closer look at Lily, and noticed for the first time that she was wearing outdated clothes, and she looked really pale. She went to put her hand on Lily’s shoulder and…..yeh, Peggy, good job.

A long, long time, Lilly replied.
Sarah’s hand shook as she set the tea before the strange girl.But Lily did not touch her tea, just sat with a distant look in her steel grey eyes. You can’t stay here!, said Lily, at least not alone. I could stay for awhile, if you have no objection. Sarah was nonplused. She wouldn’t mind the company but Lily was so different and…was she even alive, Sarah was afraid to wonder. But wanting to know more about Lilly and how she got to come to the old house in the middle of the night was very much a priority in Sarah’s mind. If you want to sit here and talk for a while, we can do that. Or perhaps you’re tired and would like to use the guest room and get some sleep before we talk? Then when you are freshened up you can tell me why you think I mustn’t stay here alone. The woman looked tired and replied in a weakened voice……
sleep? that is something that doesn’t come easy, and when it does come, you will wish it gone. Sleep means dreams and dreams mean nightmares. Ha! if only it were only nightmares!I will except your kind offer, said Lily. Sarah excused herself to turn down the bedding in the guest room, wondering if she indeed was dreaming. Returning to the kitchen, a few minutes later, she was shocked to discover Lily was gone. The untouched tea, still on the table…
