where in the world have you been? Sarah felt relief flow though her body and the tension eased. But then she remembered what Hattie had told her and a caution came over her knowing she’d have to be careful to see if she could tell from Mike’s actions if he was searching for anything in the house that may make what Hattie told her to be true. But then Sarah thought, I’d better go to him as if everything were normal or he might think it odd. Sarah walked the last couple of stairs to the landing and melted into Mike’s arms trying hard to remember that she had to be on guard. She loved him so much and couldn’t believe all of this was happening to her. Could he really be related to her in a way? That would make a relationship impossible. He should know that. Is he playing me for a fool? Sarah tried to get these thoughts out of her mind, I’ll have to get more proof before I can know what to believe or not believe, she thought. Just as she was thinking this, there was a knock on the door downstairs. She looked at Mike as though to say who would be knocking this late at night? Mike releasing his embrace from Sarah headed down the stairs without a word as if expecting someone. As Sarah stood on the landing watching this, Mike opens the door and…….

Mike is related to Mrs. Dwight. He is the great grandson of her only brother, who was adopted.Gotta think.

To Sarah’s surprise, Hattie stood in the doorway an old burlap bag by her side. Ignoring Mike, she moved across the room and started up the stairs towards Sarah.
Sarah began to berate Hattie for leaving her but Hattie put her finger to her lips as to stop Sarah from speaking. Where can I bed down? She asked.
