    POMODORO SAUCE

    Ingredients

    1/4 cup olive oil
    1/2 onion, chopped
    4 cloves garlic, minced
    2 cups roma (plum) tomatoes, diced
    2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar

    1 (10.75 ounce) can low-sodium chicken broth
    crushed red pepper to taste
    freshly ground black pepper to taste
    1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
    3 tablespoons fresh herbs (oregano, basil, parsley), chopped

    Pour olive oil in a large deep skillet over high-heat.
    Saute onions and garlic until lightly browned. Reduce heat to medium-high and add tomatoes, vinegar and chicken broth; simmer for about 8 minutes.
    Stir in red pepper, black pepper, basil and cooked pasta, tossing thoroughly with sauce. Simmer for about 5 more minutes and serve over Angel Hair Pasta, cooked according to pkg. directions and
    topped with grated cheese.

    EASY MARINARA SAUCE

    2 tsp olive oil
    1 onion, chopped
    2 tsp Chopped Garlic
    1 can (14.5 oz) peeled and diced tomatoes
    1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
    1 tsp brown sugar

    salt and black pepper, to taste
    Directions

    Serves: 4 – 6

    That said;
    My Son served two tours in Iraq, and another one in Afghanistan. I recall discussing “care Packages” with him at some point, and what came out of the conversation pertinent to your request is that, all-in-all, store-bought baked goods hold up better than home-made in the transit.

    Bloody Marinade for Flank Steak

    1 trimmed flank steak

    1 cup Bloody Mary mix
    1/4 cup horseradish
    2 TBL Worcestershire sauce
    1 tsp hot sauce (more or less)
    1 TBL Cajun spice
    1/2 cup minced onion
    1/2 cup minced garlic
    2 tsp. celery seed
    1/2 cup vodka
    Salt and pepper, to taste
    Methods/steps
    Puncture the steak repeatedly with a fork or meat tenderizer. Mix all ingredients well and pour over steak in a zipper-lock bag. Marinate for at least 6 hours. Glaze the steak with remaining marinade as you grill.

    Two-Tone Tater Salad

    4 Yukon Potatoes
    2 sweet potatoes
    4 eggs
    2 stalks celery, chopped, with leaves
    1 1/3 cup mayonnaise, more or less
    1 medium yellow onion, chopped
    2 tbsp. prepared mustard
    2 tsp. ground black pepper
    1 1/2 tsp. salt

    1. Boil a large pot of salted water. Add potatoes and cook for about 30 minutes or until they start to become tender. Drain and allow to cool, then peel and dice.
    2. Put eggs in a saucepan and cover with cold water. Bring water to a boil. Cover, remove from heat, and let eggs stand in hot water for 10 to 12 minutes. Remove from hot water and allow to cool, then peel and roughly chop.
    3. Combine the potatoes, eggs, celery and onion.
    4. Whip together the mayonnaise, mustard, salt and pepper. Add to potato mixture, mix well to coat. Refrigerate and serve chilled.

    1 cup mayonnaise
    3 tablespoons prepared horseradish
    1/2 cup sour cream
    1 dash Worcestershire sauce
    3 tablespoons prepared mustard

    Directions
    In a separate small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, horseradish, sour cream, Worcestershire sauce and mustard. Mix well, and serve with chicken tenders / fingers / nuggets for dipping.
