My Thanksgiving Dinner http://cheftomcooks.com/2009/11/29/my-thanksgiving-dinner/ http://cheftomcooks.com/2009/11/29/my-thanksgiving-dinner/#comments Mon, 30 Nov 2009 00:39:05 +0000 http://cheftomcooks.com/?p=1114 This year was a pretty small Thanksgiving for us. With the help of my wonderful Aunt Peggy, I cooked thanksgiving dinner at my house. It was only my aunt, grandma, brother and I–but we still prepared a FEAST! We made a traditional roast turkey stuffed with my Aunt Peggy’s famous stuffing. Along side we served creamy mashed potatoes, green bean casserole, cauliflower with cheese sauce, corn and cranberry sauce. Of course a few glasses of fresh apple cider! I took a couple quick videos of a couple dishes…. have a look below:

Ninja Master Prep
Ninja Master Prep

On Thursday, September 24, I was invited to attend the Euro-Pro New York Event featuring Robin Miller of Food Network fame. The event took place at the beautiful Mandarin Oriental Hotel in New York City. The ballroom that the event was held in had an amazing view of the city and Central Park. The purpose of this event was to become familiar with the new Ninja Master Prep. There was a group of about 50 bloggers who attended to watch Robin Miller use this exciting new product.

Prior to this event, I had not had a chance to view Robins Food Network TV show, but was pleased with her fun personality. Robin was very familiar with the Ninja and was able to answer all of the bloggers questions with ease. She used the Ninja to prepare some delicious recipes including a Cuban guacamole, curried cashew chicken salad, miso-mushroom soup, sorbet and a yummy frozen mojito.

The Ninja is a blender and it is a food processor and it features a double set of blades. The major stand-out difference between the performance of the Ninja and other blenders/processors is how it handled ice. Using a pulsing action Robin was able to turn ice into snow. Great for frozen drinks and snow cones. After the demonstration, we all had a chance to sample the recipes she prepared, and it was certainly delicious!

I have a Ninja in my home now and have been putting it to my own tests in the kitchen. I am very pleased with the size of the unit. It is easy to handle and store. In my small kitchen, I mostly use the smaller container to chop garlic and onions or make smoothies. I like how the top of the container seals so that I can store my leftover chopped garlic in the fridge without stinking up everything else in there. I will be sharing some videos of me and my Ninja in action very soon, so stay posted to this blog for more on the Nijna.

Until then, I will share a few videos and pictures from the Ninja Blogger Event with Robin Miller below.

Crock Pot Potato Soup http://cheftomcooks.com/2009/10/08/crock-pot-potato-soup/ http://cheftomcooks.com/2009/10/08/crock-pot-potato-soup/#comments Thu, 08 Oct 2009 12:04:18 +0000 http://cheftomcooks.com/?p=992 I prepared this soup last week and took some video clips to show you as well! The recipe is so simple and it make enough to freeze some or give to your friends and family. Everyone loves some good home made soup as the colder weather rolls in!

6 potatoes, peeled and diced
1 small onion, chopped
2 carrots, chopped
2 leeks, chopped
4 cups chicken stock
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 1/4 cups cream or half-and-half
1 lb. bacon
1-2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese

Pour 4 cups of chicken stock into your crock pot and set it on high. Add the leeks, onion, carrots, potatoes, basil, salt and pepper. Stir together and cover. Cook on high for 3-4 hours or until the potatoes are tender. While it is cooking, cook a pound of bacon in a saute pan until crisp. Drain on paper towels, then chop using a food processor or knife. Once potatoes are tender, take a bowl and mix together 1/4 cup all-purpose flour and 1 1/4 cups half & half. Make sure to stir well and remove any lumps. Pour the mixture into the crock pot and stir well. Cover and cook another 30 minutes. Serve with shredded Cheddar cheese and fresh bacon bits on top.

I’ll admit it… I was bored… http://cheftomcooks.com/2008/07/09/ill-admit-it-i-was-bored/ http://cheftomcooks.com/2008/07/09/ill-admit-it-i-was-bored/#comments Wed, 09 Jul 2008 19:49:22 +0000 http://cheftomcooks.com/?p=184 Don’t get me wrong, I’ve had my hands full lately with work and the normal day-to-day, but the other day I was bored. I know I’ve been telling you all about my new cookbook and how you can download it for free for a limited time. I wanted to find another way to get the word out, so I put together a short little video on YouTube.

I’ll be honest, I was bored, and the video doesn’t really say anything more than I’ve already told you, but I do have a question. What do you think of the background music in this video? Do you like it? Hate it? Can you cook to it? lol
Until next time, Be well!
